In 2002, Merck & Company Incorporated, a pharmaceutical company, released a drug called Vioxx to help relieve pain in patients. In 2004, just two years after it was released, Merck recalled the product due to negative side effects the drug inflicted on its users. Since then, there have been many Vioxx lawsuits to make up for the damage the side effects caused to individuals and their families

Vioxx was created as an alternative to regular anti-inflammatory medication. Most of the pharmaceutical drugs released prior to Vioxx had negative effects on the stomach of the user. Vioxx had the same helpful pain relieving benefits as its competitors, but without the stomach pain. This was exciting for all people who needed to use anti-inflammatory drugs. Most of the people who used it suffered from problems such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and dysmennorhea. Vioxx was a welcome drug for these types of pain sufferers.

Soon after the drug's release it was found that it caused side effects that weren't previously realized by the scientists that created it. By using the drug, patients became more likely to have heart disease. Since most people who took the drug suffered from conditions that came with old age, patients were even more at risk. Soon after the side effects became known, Vioxx was taken off the market. Unfortunately, it was too late to save a number of people from the side effects. As a result, many Vioxx lawsuits have been filed since the incident.

Vioxx lawsuits have been a regular occurrence since patients started having heart trouble from taking the medication. Most Vioxx lawsuits fall under the category of product liability. Product liability is when a company's product is unknowingly faulty in some way, which is the case for Vioxx.

Since there are so many cases of harmful side effects from the drug, there are a lot of Vioxx lawyers that specialize in Vioxx lawsuits. These lawyers are more effective because they have experience with this exact issue. Vioxx attorneys can be found using an Internet search engine, the local yellow pages, or attorney hotlines. The lawyers need to be contacted swiftly so that there are no penalties for waiting to file the Vioxx lawsuits. Once lawyers are obtained, they will begin completing the necessary paperwork and research needed to receive the proper settlements from Vioxx lawsuits.

In Vioxx settlements, reparations are usually received to cover medical bills, lost wages, and pain and suffering. Settlements can be won either individually or with a class action lawsuit. If done individually, the individuals filing the Vioxx lawsuits would retain their own lawyer to work on the case individually. However, if the situation is handled as class action Vioxx lawsuits, then a group of lawyers will work with many clients and file one large lawsuit. This means that any damages received from winning the lawsuit will be split up among all of the clients. It's up to the Vioxx victims and their lawyer to choose the best route at which to file the Vioxx lawsuits and receive settlements.

If there's a suspicion that there have been side effects suffered from using the drug, Vioxx, contact a lawyer quickly to get the ball rolling. Vioxx lawsuits can sometimes be long, drawn out affairs, so be prepared to wait for the settlements.
